What is diversion?

Diversion is the unauthorized distribution, buying and selling of professional products to unauthorized outlets outside of the professional industry. Perhaps you've seen professional hair care products sold in your neighborhood grocery store, drugstore, pharmacy or on the Internet. Most likely, these products were acquired through a "collector" who, by operating in a "gray market", acquired these products from various sources and, once they collected enough product, sold them to a mass distributor who specializes in selling "gray market" product to unauthorized retail establishments.

Why is this a bad thing?

Senscience, a division of Zotos International, cannot guarantee the authenticity, age or efficacy of products sold outside of legitimate distribution channels. A product sold in a drugstore may be old, damaged or even counterfeit.

A consumer who purchases diverted products in an unauthorized outlet will not benefit from the direct professional advice of a qualified salon professional who is specially trained to recommend the proper Senscience brand products for that customer's particular hair type and condition.

Furthermore, by purchasing diverted product, you will contribute to a major problem that affects both consumers and the entire professional salon industry. Diverted product hurts the independent salon owner who is trained to provide only professional services and products; the professional hair care manufacturer; those distributors committed to operating within the manufacturer's professional guidelines; and, ultimately, you, the consumer, who trusts a professional brand like Joico to deliver the highest quality ingredients. But we can only guarantee our brands when they're bought by consumers through professional salon outlets.

What you can do.

Whenever you see Senscience products being sold in any unauthorized outlet, such as a grocery store, a drugstore, a pharmacy, a swap meet, a flea market or on the Internet, immediately report the name of the product and the name of the location where the product was sold. Senscience will investigate the matter thoroughly and immediately to trace the offending source.

What we're doing.

Senscience is battling diversion in the courts, at the distributor level and in the stores where diverted product is being sold. We're buying product off shelves, identifying those sources who are selling the unauthorized product and terminating the offending suppliers.Senscience is also working with the industry leaders in diversion detection.
